Synopsis:
In the peaceful town of Ajigasawa, the locals witness an unidentified animal, which some claim looked like a lion, whilst others describe its look as more like a bear. It was eating farm crops and many raised concerns for their children’s safety. This led to a plan for a hunter to terminate it.
An Akita Inu dog appears before Setsuko (Hiroko Yakushimaru ), a big-time animal lover, and her helper Akira. The dog's temperament puzzles her as he hardly lets anyone near him, and comes and goes as he pleases. But he seems to cheer up the elderly and students hard at training for a triathlon. Setsuko extends her love and care to this dog and names him "Wasao", meaning fluffy in Japanese.
She realizes that Wasao looked like a lion, and was afraid that it might get mistaken as the bear that's ruining the farm crops and get shot ..…
在神秘原生林白神山地出现一只模样奇特、大得像狮子一样的白狗。这只和人不亲但惹人喜爱的大白狗总是悄然出现，倏牲消失，仿佛在中守望着镇民们。 在海边开烤章鱼铺的节子(药师丸博子)遇到了大白狗。节子曾经收留过不少弃犬，她对这只大白狗也付出了同样的爱心。因为它毛蓬蓬的样子，节子为它取名叫”哇沙欧”。节子发现哇沙欧经常望着一名叫作彰的少年，它只是远远地看着，绝不接近。
彰的母亲因病长期住院。在她动手术的那天夜里，不安的彰独自前往医院，却在白神山中迷了路。这段时间，白神山地区有熊出没，大家得知彰失踪后都很着急。
第一个发现彰遭遇危险的正是哇沙欧，它不顾一切地向白神山飞奔而去……
